Having overcome an avalanche of setbacks in 2020 (including a cancelled trip to SXSW), in-demand electro-punk crossover outfit PVA managed to ink a deal in lockdown, and deservedly so. Now signed to Ninja Tune offshoot Big Dada, their debut EP Toner was a welcome slice of inhibition-free escapism from the claustrophobic climate. Spearheaded by their disco-punk anthem 'Talks', which saw bleeping synths interacting with wiry Bush Tetras-esque guitar work, lounge-inspired elements of the EP are continually driven forward by hectic hi-hat hits and the metallic croak of cowbells. Thriving in the context of a hot, sweaty room, we're chomping at the bit to catch PVA at a late-night show in 2021. -Holly Mullineaux
